I can remember the moment when Lisa suggested we go into business together as if it were yesterday, even though it's way back in 2008

We were colleagues in a corporate estate agency (the place where I began my career in 2002), and we'd always worked exceptionally well together. We'd developed a very strong mutual respect from sharing similar aspirations and values around communication, customer service, teamwork and results.

I was initially a little apprehensive about setting up a business, but when I thought about it, I realised it could very well be the best thing I could ever do.  And I couldn't ask for a more determined business partner than Lisa. We both felt there was an opening for a truly personalised independent estate agent in Surbiton – one with outstanding marketing, structure and training, but with the flexibility and tailoring of service that simply isn't possible with multiple branches working for a distant head office.

We're always talking about exceptional experiences and 'going above and beyond' because they're exactly what Humphrey & Brand is about. An estate agent can make a massively positive contribution to people moving home, and seeing the team make that happen on a daily basis makes me very proud of the business we've built together, along with our reputation for honesty, reliability and trustworthiness.

Surbiton is where I live and is a place I love. As well as a great family life – from schools and walking the dog, to local clubs and groups – we have a busy town centre with plenty of great places to meet and shop, plus peaceful parks and riverside walks. I particularly like the gardens at The Grove and The Victoria pubs.

Getting into London is really easy by train, and getting away by car is also simple with the A3/M25. I can't think of anywhere more perfect than Surbiton, and it's wonderful to have a home and a business here.

I've been an estate agent all my working life, beginning in 2001, so I've now been in the property industry for more than two decades!

I started in a corporate agency and, after a year there, Laura joined the team. We worked alongside each other for six years, sharing a very similar work ethic from the word go which cemented a solid working relationship.  Although we are very different people, we have the same attitude towards professionalism, integrity and honesty – the foundation qualities on which we built Humphrey & Brand. We also have a similar sense of humour: absolutely essential given how much time we spend together.

When I began thinking of having my own business, Laura was an essential part of it. I had no doubt that we would make perfect business partners because we've always been able to count on each other, and we bring out the best in each other.  I knew that the two of us working together could create a special estate agent in Surbiton, with a fantastic reputation for exceeding clients' expectations and delivering fantastic customer service.

Every homeowner – whether a seller or a landlord – should have complete confidence in their estate agent and feel they made the right choice. Our vision was for Humphrey & Brand to offer unbeatable service levels and become the most successful, respected and highly regarded estate agent in Surbiton. The fact that so many of our early clients are still clients today is a result of that dedication.

One of the best measures of that success research is the number of reviews a business receives – they give a really clear picture of the service and results a potential client can expect from an estate agent before they even meet them. So having hundreds of five-star reviews on Google gives our future clients comfort and is something we are not only both really proud of, but also extremely grateful to our clients and customers for leaving.

Like Laura, I live in Surbiton.  I love that we have plenty of green space to spend time in, with Richmond Park and Bushy Park among my favourites. Some fantastic local schools make family life extremely good, while the fast trains into London make it really easy for commuting, shopping and going out – it's a combination that's hard to beat. We are so lucky to have the Thames on our doorstep, and walking along the river to Kingston is an absolute pleasure. And, of course, dinner at The French Table on Maple Road: for me, the best local restaurant.

Although I've been in estate agency since 2010, my grounding was in retail, where I managed a clothes shop from the age of 19. That role taught me very early on that, to get the best from your team, you must lead by example.

I love hearing the joy in an owner's voice when I call them with an offer that's higher than they expected, or giving the good news to a buyer when their offer is accepted. I also want all our customers to feel that their estate agent cares.

When I first met Laura & Lisa, I felt they really valued my experience, and I love working with like-minded people with a similar wish to succeed in every capacity.

There's a real sense that we're all focused on the same goal: to be the go-to estate agency in Surbiton. One where customers are constantly telling their friends and family: "You should definitely use Humphrey & Brand. They delivered on their promises and achieved a phenomenal result for us."

I grew up in Kingston and went to Latchmere Primary School, Grey Court Secondary School in Ham, Richmond College in Twickenham and St Marys University in Strawberry Hill. I've lived on Kings Road since 2013 after buying a house and spending a good few years renovating and extending it.

My life has always been here because it has everything: excellent schools, great shops, lots of cafes & pubs, the River Thames, friendly people and, most importantly, a good vibe!

Lettings Manager

I've always been in property and started as a Saturday assistant in 2004 while at college. I enjoyed it so much that I never left the industry! I worked in sales and lettings for the first five years, but I always preferred the rental market, and I've concentrated on that ever since.

My favourite things about estate agency are dealing with so many different characters and building long-term relationships with landlords. They place a tremendous amount of trust in us to look after their property, so it's refreshing to work with owners like Laura and Lisa who take great pride in paying back that trust with such a high level of service.

Before I came to work at Humphrey & Brand, I was at a large corporate agency for eight years, but I was really keen to get back into an independent company with a deeper insight and focus on the local market. Laura and Lisa are all so well regarded in the area, and I feel proud to work for a company that gives so much back to the community where I grew up and work.

For me, the best bits of Surbiton are its sense of togetherness and its location on the Thames. I've loved the riverside ever since my teen years at Surbiton High School: we really are so lucky to have it, especially in the summer when it's a lovely walk or cycle ride.

If I have one dream for working here, it's that every client says, "I had the best experience with Humphrey & Brand and would recommend them to anyone."

One of the most unusual things about Humphrey & Brand is the sense of pride in the community, which is not only lovely but also something I've never experienced at any company before working here.

I joined in February 2014 as Head of Property Management, and I've built many longstanding relationships with landlords since then. They take a lot of comfort in having a managing agent who knows their property inside out, and that only comes from such a long continuity of service. My favourite thing is having a good old catch up over the phone with our clients.

Despite doing this for many years, property management is a constant learning curve: I spend plenty of time keeping up with current legislation, then discussing any changes with the team. Everyone here gels really well, works closely together and takes pride in their work and the experience of our customers.

There's never a dull moment, and the day-to-day variety and constant hustle & bustle mean I'm always busy – I never wonder how to fill my time!

I love how pockets of Surbiton have a calm and tranquil feel, but the city centre is only 20 minutes away, so you have the best of both worlds. Outside of work, you'll have an excellent chance of finding me enjoying The French Tarte's delicious baking, having a drink inside The Antelope or sitting in the beer garden of The Victoria.

My job is to make people happy.

I have a very unusual role at Humphrey and Brand; one you'll have trouble finding in almost any estate agency. As Client Manager, I make sure that our clients and customers are happy through looking after tenancy progression, organising renewals and other things.

I've worked in residential lettings since 2012, and I love the energy and exciting nature of the industry. There are so many interesting people to meet and no day is the same as the last.

As a newbie (I joined in July 2021), I've found far more team spirit here than anywhere else I've worked. Everyone helps each other out, and the whole team shows a genuine interest in every client and customer.

I moved from Eastbourne to Surbiton in 2008 to study Sports Science at Kingston University. I've worked locally ever since, and I'm now looking for the perfect property to make my local-resident status complete. I love it here because the balance of being a 15-minute train ride into London, or just a few minutes' walk to a park or the river, means there's always something to do. Also, the pubs are great!

Pre-Covid, I'd spend most of my spare time planning adventures and travelling all over the world with my partner, so the last couple of years have been very different! I'm lucky to have a wonderful family and lots of lovely friends, and we've all found fun ways of spending lockdown-friendly time together.

I began my estate agency career at Humphrey and Brand in March 2017. Back then, as a trainee, I worked in sales and lettings and got an excellent grounding in both sides of the local market. Now, I'm a Senior Sales Negotiator, and there's nothing I love more than the amazing buzz of agreeing a sale.

Seeing estate agency from both a sales and lettings perspective has given me many valuable insights, from advising landlords on expanding their buy-to-let portfolio to helping buyers find the home of their dreams.

I've never worked anywhere that combines friendly and professional in the way Humphrey & Brand does. I have great colleagues, which makes every day really enjoyable, and we all love being part of the company's success. The atmosphere has always been brilliant, and it feels fantastic working here.

I've lived in Surbiton all my life - Greenfield Avenue in Berrylands for 23 years and counting! I went to school at Grand Avenue Primary, then Hollyfield Secondary, and I still have a big group of friends from back then.

Aside from playing football outside of work, my favourite local places include The Victoria pub and, as my guilty pleasure, the Sunshine Café! It's also really quick and easy to get into London, so it's been a very easy choice to stay in Surbiton – because it has everything I need.

Sales Negotiator

I started at Humphrey & Brand in March 2021 and have been an estate agent since 2019.

As a Sales Negotiator, I spend my time contacting buyers about suitable homes, showing them around, negotiating offers and then staying in touch with everyone throughout the sale until completion. I also help to get properties ready to go on the market.

My favourite thing about estate agency is meeting new people every day, building a rapport and helping them find their dream home. There's a great sense of achievement and satisfaction when a sale goes through: not just for me, but for the seller and buyer as well.

Humphrey and Brand is a fantastic place to work. The whole team works very closely together to create a professional and helpful atmosphere, and we're all happy to assist each other and find solutions to any bumps in the road.

I live towards Epsom, and I'm often in Surbiton and Kingston in my free time for drinks, dinner, a bit of culture or spending time by the river. I'm learning more and more about the area every day, and it's not hard to see why it's so popular – with so many great schools, scenic routes and excellent public transport, it's such a great place to call home!

You might not think there's much of a connection between event management and estate agency, but they have a lot in common: both require a lot of listening, and both mean playing the role of matchmaker. I used to help companies find unusual venues for their parties and occasions; now I find people for homes, and homes for people.

I've been a Sales Negotiator here since November 2020, and I love the fun and fast-paced atmosphere. Buying and selling a home is such an important life event, and I enjoy helping people through the process - every day is different, and you always learn something new!

It's great working at an independent company where everyone is professional, knowledgeable and supportive. Lisa & Laura (the owners) are not only committed and hard-working; they're the driving force behind the positive, creative and happy culture.

I've lived in Surbiton and Tolworth for over 25 years. I spent lots of time here as a child with my family in the area; my two boys attended Tolworth Infant & Junior School and Southborough High School, and my eldest is now at Esher College.

As well as having the lovely parks, riverside and Kingston on the doorstep, it's a really swift train ride into London. And if you're whizzing off on a bigger trip, the A3 and M25 are just down the road. In short, Surbiton really is the perfect location!

Compliance Officer

Bio
compliance@humphreyandbrand.co.uk

As the Compliance Officer at Humphrey & Brand, I ensure that every property we manage keeps up with current legislation and that we perform ID checks for the owners of every property we sell. It's unusual for an estate agent to have a dedicated Compliance Officer, but the high volume of sales and lettings makes it a full-time job that frees up the negotiators to agree more offers.

My favourite thing about estate agency is playing a part in people fulfilling the dreams they've worked so hard to achieve. That could be a first-time buyer, a family moving into their dream home or someone making their last move.

I joined in 2020 and immediately noticed the genuine passion of Laura & Lisa. They put the best interests of their clients above the generation of revenue, and it's a truly refreshing attitude that makes Humphrey and Brand an excellent place to work. Their commitment to providing an outstanding experience is echoed across the entire business with the same values and high standards shared by the whole team.

I've been in and around Surbiton for most of my life, growing up and going to school in Wimbledon then living more locally since 2017. I have friends on Penrhyn road, and in my younger years, you could often find me in the Wagon and Horses, The Flyer or The Vic. Now you're more likely to see me in one of the many local parks with my family or walking my dog.
