Gave us an accurate market valuation and sold our property quickly. We received a friendly, professional service throughout and were v happy with the price we sold our property for.
I can remember the moment when Lisa suggested we go into business together as if it were yesterday, even though it’s now almost 11 years ago.
We were colleagues in another (corporate) estate agency – the place where I began my estate agency career in fact, in 2002 – and we’d always worked extremely well together, sharing very similar aspirations and values around communication, customer service, teamwork and results. So we’d developed a very strong mutual respect.
I was initially a little apprehensive about setting up a business, but when I thought about it I realised it could very well be the best thing I could ever do. I couldn’t ask for a more determined business partner than Lisa, and we both felt there was a real opportunity to open a truly personalised independent estate agent in Surbiton; one with outstanding marketing, structure and training, but with the flexibility and tailoring of service that simply isn’t possible with multiple branches working for a distant head office.
We talk about exceptional experiences and ‘going above and beyond’ all the time, because that is exactly what Humphrey & Brand is about. An estate agent can make a massively positively contribution to people moving home, and seeing the team make that happen on a daily basis makes me very proud of the business we’ve built together, along with our reputation for honesty, reliability and trustworthiness.
Surbiton is where I live and is a place I love. As well as a great family life – from schools, to walking the dog to local clubs and groups – we have a busy town centre with plenty of great places to meet and shop, plus peaceful parks and riverside walks. I particularly like the gardens at The Grove and The Victoria pubs. Getting into London is really easy by train, and getting away by car is also simple with the A3/M25. So really I can’t think of anywhere more perfect than Surbiton, and it’s wonderful to have a home and a business here.
I’ve been an estate agent all my working life. Beginning in 2001, I’m now up to 18 years in the property industry.
I started out in a corporate agent and, after a year there, Laura joined the team. We worked alongside each other for 6 years, sharing a very similar work ethic from the word go which cemented a really strong working relationship. Although we are very different people, we have the same attitude towards professionalism, integrity and honesty – the foundation qualities that Humphrey & Brand is built on. We also have a similar sense of humour, which is really important when you are spending so much time together.
When I began thinking of having my own business, Laura was an essential part of it. I had no doubt that we would make perfect business partners because we’ve always been able to count on each other, and we bring out the best in each other. I knew that the two of us working together could create a special estate agent in Surbiton, with a fantastic reputation for exceeding clients expectations and delivering fantastic customer service.
Every homeowner – whether a seller or a landlord – should have complete confidence in their estate agent and feel they made the right choice. Our vision was for Humphrey & Brand to offer unbeatable levels of service and to become the most successful, respected and highly regarded estate agent in Surbiton. The fact that so many of our early clients are still clients today is a result of that dedication.
One of the best measures of that success for potential clients to research is the amount of reviews a business receives – they give a really clear picture of the service and results someone can expect from an estate agent before they even meet them. So having hundreds of five star reviews on Feefo and Google gives our future clients comfort and is something we are not only both really proud of, but also extremely grateful to our clients and customers for leaving.
Like Laura, I live in Surbiton. I love that we have plenty of green space to spend time in, with Richmond Park and Bushy Park among my favourites. Some fantastic local schools make family life extremely good, while the fast trains into London make commuting and going out there really quick and easy – it’s a combination that’s hard to beat. We are so lucky to have the Thames on our doorstep and walking along the river to Kingston is a real pleasure. And of course dinner at The French Table on Maple Road – for me the best local restaurant.
My career in estate agency began in 2013 and I’ve spent all that time working in Surbiton: I love the town’s diversity and how it caters for every generation.
I’d been aware of Humphrey and Brand for many years and of the incredible reputation that Lisa and Laura had built. When we talked about me joining the joining the team I could feel how similar our outlooks were and it’s fantastic working in team where everyone is so passionate about their jobs and caring for clients (before estate agency I used to run restaurants, which is definitely where my love for people, customer service and business was born).
I have strong family roots in the area: my grandfather was captain of Surbiton Golf Club where we used to play some rounds together, and he was also in business locally for over 50 years as the owner of Paul Scott hairdressers, where I helped out and worked from childhood.
Head of Property Management
As Head of Property Management at Humphrey & Brand I oversee everything that happens with the agency's portfolio of more than 200 rental properties. I've been at the company since February 2014 and really love the team spirit here.
Alongside ensuring that general repairs and maintenance are carried out, I’ve helped landlords to manage complete refurbishments of their properties. I also provide guidance to the lettings team in ensuring that all the paperwork is in order for every new rental contract and tenancy renewal.
Like everyone else at Humphrey & Brand, I love regular contact with so many people. Property Management is a long-term business which means I have relationships with many landlords and tenants that go on for years. Whether they have chosen Surbiton for an investment or as their home, I enjoy leaving them feeling valued and well cared for.
I began my estate agency career at Humphrey and Brand, joining the company in March 2017.
I'm a Senior Sales Negotiator which means I help sellers and landlords to find suitable buyers and tenants for the properties we have for sale and to let.
Seeing estate agency from both a sales and rentals perspective has given me a really good insight into the differences between selling and letting property and provides a lot of variety in terms of the people I deal with, what their different circumstances are, and the reasons they are looking to move home.
I've never worked anywhere as nice as Humphrey & Brand. I have great colleagues which makes every day really enjoyable - we all love contributing to the company and seeing its success.
I’m a lifelong Surbiton resident, living on Greenfield Avenue in Berrylands for 20 years and with my school years spent at Grand Avenue Primary School and then Hollyfield Secondary School.
I was a fitness instructor and operations manager at a gym before switching to estate agency in 2018, and I came to Humphrey and Brand in January 2019. I like that the team here also take good care of themselves and Ive enjoyed a lot of runs and bike rides along the river when I studied at Kingston College I would sometimes run all the way to Richmond and back.
Every day is different in estate agency. I meet new people all the time and helping them move on to the next chapter of their lives is one of my favourite things about it, but Im also in love with Victorian property so really enjoy showing people round those.
I really admired by what Laura and Lisa have created with Humphrey & Brand and I really wanted to work here. I knew the company really cares about people and that the team are also kind and friendly.
When I moved to the UK I lived on Longmead Road in Thames Ditton and Ive loved Surbiton ever since. It still feels like London and has some brilliant local coffee shops and restaurants, but its got a great community feel as well and Im always bumping into people I know on the street.
I began working at Humphrey and Brand as Office Manager in 2018. What's most enjoyable is how professional and efficient it is here as well as the strong involvement with the local community and the social nights out together with the team.
I love the property market and have managed three building projects myself, the last of which took almost a year with much blood, sweat and tears along the way.
My first property in Surbiton was a two bedroom purpose-built flat on Maple Road and it was lovely walking into Kingston on a Saturday morning for breakfast and shopping for fruit and vegetables. I also like Victorian character and I currently live in a period garden flat with many unique and beautiful features.
I started working at Humphrey and Brand in 2018 . I register applicants and conduct viewings for the sales team which means I'm out and about in Surbiton quite a lot.
I hadn't worked in the industry before I came here and I know how daunting the experience can be for people, so I love how Humphrey & Brand creates such a positive experience of estate agents.
I've lived locally all of my life and I grew up nearby in Kingston and went to Coombe Girls School. That's another lovely thing about working here - because we all have a history with the area and choose to live here, it gives the whole team something in common and a shared passion for Surbiton that really comes across to our customers.
